REVIEW: Lovehoney BASICS 6 Inch Suction Cup Dildo

This was my very first dildo and I was (and still am) so impressed with it! At the time, I knew I wanted a 6 inch dildo with a suction cup – it always helps with limiting options down if you know what you want. Originally, I also wanted balls attached, but I’m a cheapskate, who wasn’t willing to pay too much, and it would be my first, so I just wanted to test the waters with something cheaper, so I bought this.

The specs of this dildo is that it is basically intended for beginners – that’s why it is in Lovehoney’s BASICS range. I am a huge advocate of the BASICS range. I think that it is an awesome range, considering it is the cheapest range on Lovehoney.co.uk, but all the items I have tried have still managed to deliver in giving me great pleasure. Once again, I was impressed with this realistic dildo from the range too!

This dildo has an insertable length of 6 inches (above average for actual penises, about average for sex toy penises) and a chunky girth of 5 inches. I was surprised at how large the girth was for a beginners’ item. If you are a really, truly, never-had-anything-in-your-vagina beginner, I would perhaps advise a more slimline toy for your very first time. Honestly, the size seemed a little intimidating to my dildo-newbie body at first, but when I used it for the first time, I understood what people meant about the whole “your-vagina-expands-don’t-you-know” thing. I had had sex before plenty of times, so I don’t know why the prospect of putting something of not-enormous-size into me made me wary, but when I held that dildo for the first time, I honestly didn’t really compare it to the real-life penis I’d had before. The different texture and firmness compared to the real-life thing made this a phallic item that I view as completely separate to a flesh-and-blood penis.

Speaking of the different texture, now onto the controversial aspect of this toy. It is made from PVC. Whilst this is skin-safe, and free from latex and phthalates, it is a porous material (read my disclaimer here if you are not yet aware about porous toys). Personally, I have had no issue with PVC material. basics 6 inch 2On this particular dildo, the surface texture is a bit draggy and the PVC used here has more of a matte and rubbery feel than other toys I have experienced. For this reason, using a bit of lube for the first insertion might help to keep it gliding in smoothly. You can also use a condom over the top of it to aid insertion and if you are wary about the material. I have used this toy both ways and can say I get the same level of satisfaction from both leaving it bare (even without lube) and having it condom dressed. If you plan to use this anally (which I have done once… you NEED to work up to it with something smaller first – at least I did – but it is so worth the effort if you want to feel filled right up with a chunky girth… thrusting with this inside you becomes addictive, a relentless pursuit for pleasure), PLEASE use a condom over the top.

basics 6 inch 4A pro of the material is its resulting flexibility. I think this would be an ideal flexibility for most preferences, as it straddles a good middle-ground on the scale. It is flexible enough to be able to target your preferred areas, but hard enough that it keeps firm, even when you’re going full-force with it suction cupped. The firm-yet-flexible-ness makes this toy feel so much more realistic.

I like that this is a realistic dildo without looking freaky. Honestly, flesh-coloured toys freak me out, they look TOO much like the real thing – they remind me of a severed penis, and mutilation is not a sexy thought that gets me in the mood funnily enough :/. Purple keeps the toy suitably attractive in my eyes. Further realistic features include a prominent head, which really fills you up! Its head is more of a rounded shape, not tapered, so there is no extra help with easing into insertion there, making lube all the more advisable if you don’t think you can take a reasonable girth instantly. basics 6 inch 3Veins pattern the shaft, though they are only shallow. They are meant to enhance stimulation, however I couldn’t really feel them inside me. Then again, I can’t usually feel intricate details like that on my vaginal wall, the sensations don’t seem to register as details, and I can just feel a general shaft massaging me inside.

This BASICS dildo features a suction cup that is meant to work on any hard and smooth surface. The suction cup holds very well most of time and I’ve found it is a good size to grip with your hand if you want to use it manually. I prefer manual use to suction cup use personally, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t felt many enjoyable sensations from this toy being suctioned to the (wooden) side of my bed, on my chair or even on my mirror! If I go for a longish time using the suction cup, like half an hour, on the chair or bed side, the suction cup does become a little less effective and becomes more likely to drop off. I don’t really know why.

TOP TIP: A quick remedy for the suction cup being dodgy is to line the suction cup with lube on the circumference ONLY on the side you are sticking to things. I have only used water-based lube for this and it proved effective long enough for me to reach orgasm (about 10 minutes). This toy is completely submersible, so make sure to thoroughly clean off the lube-y suction cup after you are done.

I have used this for solo play and am continually satisfied. It manages to fit my vagina perfectly, with dimensions that fill and slightly stretch, but in a comfortable and pleasurable way. I don’t feel probed, I just feel like this dildo is making itself at home and relaxing into my inner crevices every time I use it. The head gives a firm caress inside, which I have orgasmed from at my A-Spot (i.e. near my cervix) so many times, and once, I even managed a G-spot orgasm whilst bent over. It hasn’t happened again, but I haven’t really tried much. There is obviously the potential there, though.

I have found that my initial disappointment at my inability to acquire budget balls is hugely overshadowed by how much fun I have with this toy! In conclusion, Lovehoney have yet again outdone themselves with the “BASICS” range and I would advise this product for everyone, beginner to dildo expert.

UPDATE: this dildo gave me my first purposeful G-spot orgasm in the bent over position! Seriously, they got the shape and dimensions absolutely spot-on when designing this toy. If they made this in silicone, I truly believe this would be a cult classic item…
